I began photographing birds in 1972 and bird photography has remained a passionate hobby ever since.  Many years were spent doing nest photography, both on 35mm and medium format, before the availability of high quality long lenses facilitated a different approach.

I have travelled widely abroad and much prefer working from hides where possible.  For me, the fieldwork is as enjoyable and as important as the actual taking of pictures and I find long term projects particularly rewarding.

Having spent much time over several years making Cibachrome prints from transparencies, I have more recently worked exclusively with colour negative film.  After giving up my darkroom in 2005, I now rely solely on digital capture.
