Hugh Clark is yet another who was inspired to take up bird photography by Eric Hosking who, in 1946, when he was thirteen, lectured at his school in Canterbury. Almost immediately afterwards he acquired his first serious camera, a quarter plate Sanderson complete with Luc shutter from that Alladins cave in Holburn known as Brunnings. One of his first subjects were Little Terns which nested in quite large numbers on the beach by Reculver towers near Herne Bay in Kent. They have long since gone and have been replaced by a caravan site and the Tern is now, regrettably, a Schedule One species. Later, greatly influenced by Stephen Dalton's superb action photography, he became involved with high speed flash and had the good fortune to win a silver medal at the Royal Photographic Society's 1989 International Exhibition. His great love is British wildlife, particularly in the Ashdown Forest where he lives although he does make some two trips each year to various locations overseas to do underwater photography using housed Nikons.
